PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A 15-month-old child is recovering after falling out of a second-story window.
The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 300 block of St. Andrews in Pierce Township.
Officers said the child climbed onto the couch that was underneath the window and fell through the screen onto the concrete below.
When emergency crews arrived the child was unconscious but soon woke up and began crying.
Clermont County dispatchers said a medical helicopter was called to the scene. She was taken to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati.
Officials told 9 On Your Side the child had good vital signs at Children’s Hospital. Physicians are currently monitoring Lexie's brain to watch for swelling.
The American Academy of Pediatrics stated that falls in newborns to the age of four are more likely to hit their heads and be hospitalized or die. The AAP says that increased prevention efforts are needed in children.
