MILFORD, Ohio -- A man and his wife attempted to rescue three dogs from a pond in Milford Monday evening, but they were unable to save two.
Rescuers were called to the pond in the 5400 block of Mt. Zion Road at about 5:20 p.m., and found a woman trying to rescue the animals.
Three Irish Setters somehow ended up in the pond, said Chief Matt Rose of the Stonelick Township Fire Department. As the wife tried to rescue them, her husband pushed a kayak out into the water for her to hold onto.
A dive team from Loveland-Symmes helped out with the rescue along with a boat from Batavia. One dog was saved.
The man and woman were taken to Bethesda North Hospital to be checked for hypothermia as a safety precaution.
Officials said Tuesday they were both in good health.
