CINCINNATI -- October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Cincinnati hosted the first Purple Light Domestic Violence Awareness Month Walk on Friday evening.
The walk, aimed at raising awareness for the issue of domestic violence, was a partnership between Women Helping Women, the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Police Department and began at 7 p.m.
"Women Helping Women is pleased to team up with the YWCA and the Cincinnati Police Department to sponsor the Purple Light Walk, which will serve as a striking visual reminder that domestic violence is a problem facing both women and men regardless of race, ethnicity or social status," said Kendall Fisher, executive director of Women Helping Women.
The walk started and ended at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and walkers carried purple glow sticks - purple being the color of domestic violence awareness.'
Registration to participate in the walk was free.
