TRENTON, Ohio – Officials at the MillerCoors Brewery are waiting to see what caused a Tuesday morning fire at their Wayne Madison Road facility.
"Everything is still under investigation," said Denise Quinn, MillerCoors plant manager. "Obviously, we did have an incident, but first and foremost, all of our employees and contractors are safe and accounted for and that was our first order of business."
Fire crews responded to the structure fire shortly before 9 a.m.
Dispatch received calls that heavy black smoke could be seen rising from the middle of the brewery located at 2525 Wayne Madison Road.
Employees at the brewery were evacuated from the facility by the time crews arrived.
"Every week we run our messaging so people understand the differences of different kinds of evacuations we practice," Quinn said. "We also do drills. We practice this quite a bit."
The brewery provides about 560 jobs to the region, according to the MillerCoors website.
The facility that sits on 1,100 acres opened in 1991 and was slated for renovations in 2012.
The fire appeared to be limited to one building centrally located within the facility. It was brought under control by 9:45 a.m.
Employees were allowed back into the plant a short time later.
