MONROE TWP. -- Two people are dead after a crash in Monroe Township Thursday.
The accident happened on U.S. Route 52 at the 9.5 mile marker near Altman Road just after 3 p.m., according to authorities with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
According to a preliminary investigation, 56-year-old Garry Thomas Gloeckner was driving his 2002 Ford F-150 northbound on US 52 when he collided head-on with a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner driven by 29-year-old Ryan Marc Holland.
Holland, of Norwood, was traveling southbound on US 52 when he turned left of center and collided with Gloeckner, of Felicity, Ohio.
Gloeckner was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, authorities said.
Holland was taken to Anderson Mercy Hospital by Monroe Township EMS and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators said it is unknown at this time if alcohol and drugs were a factor in the crash.
The crash is being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
