RIPLEY, Ohio – A Brown County man sits in a Colorado jail after authorities there say he tried to coerce a 13-year-old girl into performing sexually explicit acts over the Internet.
Gregory Scott Kasarcik, 24 of Ripley, Ohio, faces two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of criminal extortion after authorities say he threatened to destroy the Arvada, Co. teenager’s computer if she did not perform those acts via video messaging.
Peter A. Weir, a district attorney in Colorado, said Kasarcik lured the eighth-grader off a social media site for teenagers called SceneKids and onto the video conferencing program Skype by posing as a 15-year-old teenager.
“This is not a joke (sic) you better get back on,” Kasarcik allegedly wrote on Skype according to a transcript of that conversation. “(B)ecause I have control of your computer if you (do) what I say you keep your computer otherwise I’m destroying it.”
The 13 year old became very upset and told her 16-year-old sister about the exchange, according to testimony. The siblings then went to an adult neighbor about the situation. The teenagers’ mother was not home during the incident.
The neighbor’s phone call to police initiated the investigation that eventually led to Kasarick. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Feb. 5.
Brown County Sheriff’s Department arrested Kasarcik on that warrant on March 5 and held him for extradition to Jefferson County, Co. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing for Kasarcik is set for April 11.
Other teenagers might have had contact with Kasarcik, Weir stated. Kasarcik used the screen name “ericfringe2” on SceneKids.com and Skype. Police say Kasarcik registered at least one of those accounts on Feb. 3, 2013.
