FLORENCE, Ky. -- An Elsmere mother was charged with wanton endangerment Thursday after leaving her toddler inside a vehicle while she went shopping.
A person found Dawn Barbe's son by himself, asleep inside a SUV in the back of a parking lot at 7921 Mall Road in Florence, behind Jimmy John's and Eye Mart. The SUV's windows were rolled up when the person discovered the sleeping boy.
Police arrived on scene and soon located his 40-year-old mother. Capt. Tom Grau said Barbe had been shopping at Eye Mart for about 30 minutes before "realizing the child was still in the vehicle."
Medics examined the child and said he was okay.
Barbe was taken to the Boone County Detention Center.
Grau asks anyone with additional information on the incident to contact Florence police at (859) 647-5420.
