Police locate woman missing from Turfway Park parking lot

FLORENCE, Ky. – A woman reported missing from the parking lot of Turfway Park Saturday night was found shortly after the Boone County Sheriff's Office sent out an alert asking the public to help locate her Sunday morning.

Diana Backscheider, 44 of Cincinnati, disappeared after she was seen walking toward a parked police cruiser seeking assistance after the racetrack's annual Turfway Park Spiral Stakes.

Backscheider and her boyfriend discovered the battery in their vehicle died as they were leaving the event.

In the time it took the woman to cross the parking lot toward the cruiser, Turfway security jumped the car’s dead battery.

Backscheider never returned to the vehicle, according to police. Her boyfriend, and another friend who attended the event, called the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Overnight, police made a sweep of area bars, hotels, taxi services, jails and hospitals. The sheriff’s office released a call to the public to help locate Backscheider at about 9:45 a.m. Sunday morning. By 10:30 a.m. Boone County Sheriff Public Information Officer Tom Scheben reported Backscheider had been located.

Police gave no details about where she was found. Scheben said his department was looking into the specifics of the disappearance.
