CINCINNATI - One hundred and twenty-five stellar spellers from across the Tri-State are headed to the School for Creative and Performing Arts on Saturday for the WCPO 9 On Your Side Regional Spelling Bee.
Every fall, hundreds of students across the Tri-State compete at the school level to earn the honor of advancing to the regional event. Sixty-seven students representing schools in southwestern Ohio and 58 students representing Northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana were selected for regionals. Out of 125 students, only two will move on to compete at the National Spelling Bee.
Spellers from Ohio will take the stage first at 9 a.m. then spellers from Indiana and Kentucky will compete at 2 p.m.
One winner from each region will come out on top and receive an all-expense paid trip to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.
The event is open to the public. No reservations or tickets are needed. The event will be held at the school at 108 W. Central Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202.
