CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Public Schools will hold a limited online lottery for a portion of open kindergarten seats in selected magnet schools for the 2014-15 school.

The lottery will be held Oct. 26 through Nov. 2 for spots at the following schools: Dater Montessori School, Fairview-Clifton German Language School, North Avondale Montessori School, Sands Montessori School and the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA).

This will be the third year for CPS' Magnet Kindergarten Lottery. School system officials say the lottery is intended to allow more equitable access to kindergarten seats in the district's popular magnet elementary schools that have a history of generating waiting lists.

Students eligible for the lottery must live in the attendance boundaries of specific neighborhood schools that were identified based on the school's performance on the most recent Ohio Report Card, according to school officials.

Eligible neighborhood schools for the lottery are: Mt. Airy Schools, Rockdale Academy, Roll Hill Academy, Roselawn Condon School, William H. Taft School and Westwood School.

Parents of eligible students entering kindergarten in August 2014 may start applying to the lottery at 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The lottery will close at 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.

After the lottery closes Nov. 2, a computer program will randomly select lottery winners from among all the lottery applications.

The lottery will assign students to 30 percent of the kindergarten seats that remain open at the eligible magnet schools after Oct. 18. That date marks the close of the early application period for siblings of current magnet students.

You can apply for the lottery at the following link: www.cps-k12.org.
