CINCINNATI - Procter & Gamble Co. will relocate 55 Cincinnati jobs to Costa Rica by next summer as part of an ongoing company restructuring.

Starting in October, jobs will be relocated from P&G’s Customer Service Accounts Receivable organization in North America to San Jose, Costa Rica. P&G expects the reorganization to be completed by next June, with 15 employees remaining in Cincinnati, down from about 70 now.

“A comprehensive support system will be in place for the impacted employees, which includes opportunities for transition into other available P&G roles,” said Marie-Laure Salvado, a company spokeswoman. “This program is consistent with P&G’s ongoing approach to reorganizing to meet the needs of the business.”

The local job reductions come at the tail end of a restructuring initiative in which P&G announced plans to eliminate 5,700 jobs but actually reduced global employment by 7,000. The company says local employment has remained constant at about 12,000 during the period.

P&G said it would increase productivity during a recent conference call to discuss fourth-quarter earnings, but Chief Financial Officer Jon Moeller said job reductions would happen at a slower pace in the future.

“We're going to keep going, and it doesn't stop at the end of the five-year period,” Moeller said. “But a big chunk of the role reductions, which drive disproportionately restructuring spending, have occurred.”
