Just last year you would have seen a line of several hundred people outside Best Buy late night on Thanksgiving, waiting for a Midnight Black Friday opening.
Not anymore: Best Buy's store in Florence, KY, and in many parts of the nation, opened at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving night, for the first time ever.
So some shoppers had to spend Thanksgiving dinner on a cold parking lot. Was it worth it? Those up front said yes.
3 Days in a School Bus
There was no Thanksgiving dinner with family for Adam Bessler and his friends from Northern Kentucky.
In what's become an annual tradition for them, going back 7 years, they spent almost 3 days camped outside Best Buy in an old school bus, turkey on their barbecue grill.
Most of the other 150 people waiting for Best Buy's opening had to spend their Thanksgiving afternoon just standing in the cold.
Among them: The first one in line, an 8 year old boy named Marcel, with big dreams "I'm hoping to get a tablet, an XBox and maybe a laptop," he said.
To answer your question, yes he did have a parent with him ...somewhere.
Game On at 6 PM
At 6 p.m. sharp the doors slid open, Marcel leading the pack, and it was game on.
With great deals on tablets, phones, and especially 50 inch TVs, shoppers here told us it was worth missing a few hours of Thanksgiving dinner.
"Was it ? Yes it was," said one.
Gena Goodrich nabbed a half price Kindle Fire HD tablet, saying it was worth it, standing out in the cold to be able to get such a deal.
Mike Warth was happy he didn't have to wait until Midnight to get the bargains anymore.
"I'm getting what I want, they had a lot of good prices, and you don't have to wait in line as much this year."
Indeed the earlier openings meant a more spread out crowd, and these people appreciated it, whether they had camped out for days, or were just 8 years up, staying up past normal bedtime.
As always, don't waste your money.
