Wine me, dine me pick of the week: Pommes Souffle and Benedict Cumberbatch at Boca? Yes, please!

One of the most beautiful restaurant spaces in town, this isn't your mom and dad's Maisonette, the classic Cincinnati eatery that's now in the history books. Think luxe fixtures with a refined, yet still approachable atmosphere: The food is haute, the wine list impeccable, but the bartenders wear (nice) jeans.

I'm a huge fan of happy hours: they don't necessarily need to be the discounted ones; simply a time to grab a bite and a beverage after work.

Boca has become one of my favorite happy hour spots: it's a great way to try a bite or two, without breaking the bank. Their bartenders are great, and the full menu is available at the bar.

My favorite dish, introduced to me by Laura Gleason of the Miller Gallery (which supplies much of the art in the space) are Pommes Souffle (pictured below). Laura told me that when she was a little girl, her parents would take her into the Maisonette with them, and the staff served these to her--they were not on the menu.

I love food memories, and the picture of a little girl eating fried potatoes in the old Maisonette space is just too adorable. As for the pommes, they are a simple, yet impressive preparation: potatoes sliced lengthwise, deep-fried until they puff in the middle. 

Served with bearnaise sauce (which is made of clarified butter, egg yolk, vinegar and herbs), it's the perfect dish to pair with the Benedict Cumberbatch (above), a Scotch-based cocktail that's become a favorite of mine (plus, the name is great). It is the most refined happy hour appetizer I can think of.
