Lavomatic and Local 127 restaurants close down

New concept expected soon at Lavomatic location

CINCINNATI -- Two Cincinnati restaurants shuttered over the weekend, announcing their closure via social media.

Lavomatic, located on 1211 Vine St, announced its closure on Facebook on Sunday night. The announcement read:

Lavomatic has closed
Thanks to a great staff and
Thanks to everyone who supported us over the years

Lavomatic opened in 2008 and was operated by Jean-Robert French Restaurant Group. It was one of the original restaurants in the Gateway Quarter of Over-the-Rhine, which has been redeveloped since and is now home to more than 10 restaurants.

The Lavomatic location is expected to be filled in by Thunderdome, the restaurant group owned by the Lanni Brothers, according to Julie Niesen Gosdin at wine, me, dine me , a Cincinnati food blogger and WCPO contributor.

The new restaurant is expected to be a casual restaurant with a small, specialized menu and a distinct theme, similar to The Eagle and Bakersfield. The new restaurant's target opening is for October.

Also over the weekend, Local 127 announced their closure on Facebook . The announcement read:

To all the supporters of Local 127, Chef Kyle Johnson, General Manager Jenny Filipski, and the entire staff:

We are sad to announce that this evening, June 28, will be our last night of service. We have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Cincinnati food community and are forever grateful to those who helped establish an amazing community within our restaurant.

The staff at Local 127 is made up of some of best employees, but more importantly, some of the best people in this industry and in this city.

A very specific thank you to all the farmers, purveyors, foragers, and harvesters who represent the true objective of Local 127.

We leave with our heads held high, proud of the food we served and the service we provided.

Local 127 opened in 2009 at the former location of Pigall's at 127 W 4th St. The restaurant then moved to where The Bistro was located at 413 Vine St. Like Lavomatic, Local 127 was owned by the Relish Restaurant Group.

The restaurant was known for their American cuisine that was sourced with ingredients from local shops and farms. There is no word on what might go into their space, located at 413 Vine St.

Martin Wade, the owner of the Relish Restaurant Group, said it was time for him to get out of the restaurant business after a dozen years, speaking to the Cincinnati Business Courier .

“Between real estate and Rookwood, I’m stretched out,” Wade said to the Courier.

Wade said he and his wife, Marilyn, decided to close both restaurants after talking with the management teams.

Taste of Belgium, located nearby Lavomatic at 1133 Vine Street, echoed the sadness of the two closures, but offered help for the employees of the now closed eateries. The restaurant posted on their Facebook page reaching out to those affected by the closures:

It's always sad to see local restaurants close and people lose their jobs. With that said, we're always looking for talented and hard working people. Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. Or email dorothy@authenticwaffle.com for kitchen or front of the house positions.
