Batesville, Indiana brothers get new reality show after $1 million Doritos Super Bowl ad win

Move over “Duck Dynasty,” make room for eastern Indiana’s famous Dorito-loving brothers.

The TV channel A&E announced Tuesday it has given the greenlight to an eight-part reality series called “The Herbert Brothers,” a half-hour show revolving around five brothers made famous when their contest-winning Doritos commercial was named the best ad during the 2009 Super Bowl.

The Batesville, Ind.-based filmmakers won $1 million for their low-budget production, beating out big-money submissions from advertising agencies in New York City and Los Angeles.

Cashing in on their “Doritos Crash the Super Bowl” contest win, the Herbert brothers used their prize money to launch their own ad firm, Herbert Brothers Entertainment .

The brothers describe the business as a "world-wide leader of producing branded commercial comedy — whether it's laugh-out-loud funny, subtle, clever/witty, charming, out-of-the-box, persuasive, hysterical, or just plain memorable."

The self-proclaimed "nobodies from nowhere" – a town of 6,508 to be exact – have since developed commercials for Pepsi, GoDaddy, Shasta and other major corporations. (Click here to view their self-labeled "greatest hits" )

They've launched an aptly named YouTube page, "Herbert Brothers ," to display their videos. So far, they've posted 39 videos, the most popular being their famous Super Bowl, "Free Doritos." 

As of Friday afternoon, the video had more than 45,000 views and 130 "thumps up" (positive) reviews to only seven negative votes.

Their business startup efforts, mixed with their small-town lifestyles, will be at the heart of the new series, according to A&E

“The five brothers still live and work in their idyllic hometown and enlist help from the locals; their friends act, mom caters, dad builds sets and neighbors help script,” station reps were quoted in a Yahoo article .

'The Herbert Brothers' is currently in production.

Zig Zag Productions (“Confessions of a Sex Addict,” “The Man Who Injects Venom”) is producing the series, with Zig Zag's Matt Gould, Danny Fenton and Mark Efman executive producing. Lily Neumeyer is executive producing for A&E, according to the Yahoo report.

In recent years A&E has become known for its unscripted reality hits, namely “Duck Dynasty” and “Storage Wars.”
