Jerod Weber wins Kings Island's 'Scream like a Banshee' competition

MASON, Ohio – Ear drums were popped and cash was won Saturday night during the final round of Kings Island’s “Scream like a Banshee” competition.

Jerod Weber, of Cincinnati, took home the grand prize after his ear-piercing shriek recorded a decibel reading of 131.5, according to park spokesperson Don Helbig.

For his deafening shout, Weber walked away with a trip for two to Los Angeles, tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm and $1,000 in cash.

Paying homage to its newest thrill ride, “Banshee,” Kings Island hosted the competition every Friday night during its Halloween Haunt event. More than 1,000 park visitors competed during the six weeks of competition with the winner of each round advancing to the finals.

Currently under construction, Banshee will be the world’s longest inverted roller coaster when the $24 million ride opens in April 2014. Riders will scream their way through 4,124 feet of track and seven inversions at speeds up to 68 miles per hour.
