CINCINNATI -- Just weeks after crews wrapped up primary filming for the movie “Carol” in the city, the Greater Cincinnati-Kentucky Film Commission announced another major motion will be filmed here this summer.
A Miles Davis bio-pic titled “Miles Ahead” starring Don Cheadle will be entirely filmed here in the months ahead, according to the commission’s executive director Kristen Erwin Schlotman.
“Miles Ahead” will also star Ewan McGregor, and Zoe Saldana.
Produced by Don Cheadle, Daniel Wagner, Rob Barnum, Pamela Hirsch, Lenore Zerman, Vince Wilburn and Daryl Porter, and screenplay by Steven Baigelman and Cheadle, “Miles Ahead” is a an exploration of the life and music of Miles Davis, the commission stated.
“Cincinnati has a lot to offer us and we are very excited to be here,” said Hirsch. “It was a long and thoughtful process to decide where we could film this movie. We landed on Cincinnati because of the attention and total cooperation of the Film Commission, the State’s film incentive, the location and the good-will of the people.”
Production offices for the film opened in Cincinnati in mid-May, scouting for film locations and local talent.
“This is what we set out to do: Create a production ecosystem in Greater Cincinnati that not only impacts our workforce and economy, but also enhances our culture and community,” said Schlotman. “We intend to roll out the red carpet and help Cheadle and his team make an incredible story by amazing talent.”
“Miles Ahead” is the fifth motion picture to film in the area with the State of Ohio tax incentive established in 2012.
The direct economic impact of the filming will not be known until production crews submit their receipts to the state of Ohio for taxing purposes early next year.
“We look forward to exploring the culture, musicians and backdrop of this city. We are hoping to work closely with the community to bring this project to screen,” said Cheadle.
The film commission is asking anyone interested in applying to be an extra to send a headshot and email to firstname.lastname@example.org . Interested jazz musicians should send photo and contact information to email@example.com .
