1. Riverfest set to cap off summer with day full of family fun, fireworks

Come down early to claim your patch of grass or concrete for the 37th P&G Riverfest and WEBN/Cincinnati Bell fireworks show and Labor Day celebration.

It’s Cincinnati’s favorite way to joyfully mourn the end of the summer. The fun lasts all day as people jostle for position along the riverbanks but the fireworks should start at about 9:05 p.m.

Listen to live music from bands Heaven’s Basement, Cinema Sleep, Seven Circle Sunrise and BoyMeetsWorld or just turn the radio to WEBN and turn it up for all-day Riverfest play.

2. Sugar Rush: CityBeat to host celebration of all things sweet

CityBeat’s celebration of confectionary excess returns for the second annual Sugar Rush, an evening of cupcakes, ice cream, donuts, pies and pastries from local sweeteries, plus dessert wines, coffee and liquor drinks.

There will also be a panel of sugar experts handing out special sweet awards including Too Pretty to Eat, Dentist’s Worst Nightmare, Kid in a Candy Store and Like Mama Used to Make.

A portion of event proceeds will benefit the Cincinnati Ballet, members of which will be performing at the event at 6 and 7 p.m.

3. AVP brings world's longest-running beach volleyball tourney to Mason

The AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, the longest running professional beach volleyball tour in the world, features the top American men’s and women’s volleyball players.

It’s your chance to watch Olympic heroes such as Kerri Walsh Jennings, April Ross, Todd Rogers and more.

The event runs through Sunday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.

4. Cincinnati rockers take over Final Friday

There are several can’t-miss events in Over-the-Rhine this Final Friday.

The Smartfish Studio & Sustainable Supply store is hosting its “Hello Goodbye” event as it evolves into Rock Paper Scissors -- a new store featuring sustainable art supplies, workshops, music releases and merchandise from Cincinnati bands on Main Street.

Down the street two creative agencies are hosting a party to celebrate their merger into a new design, industrial design and public relations firm.

To cap off the night, local rockers DAAP Girls are celebrating the release of their second music video at Japp’s Annex starting at 6 p.m.

5. Renaissance Festival rolls out medieval fun to patrons of all ages in Harveysburg

The Renaissance Festival summons all lords, ladies and court jesters to take part in their annual festivities in celebration of jousting, knighthood and the biggest turkey legs you’ve ever seen.

The village is bustling with ye olde merchants, musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers inviting you to play along for a day of living history.

7. Race with the wild animals at the Cincinnati Zoo's Cheetah Run

It’s time to run while at the annual Cheetah Run at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Guests of all ages are welcome to join the fun during the 3.1 mil run and walk on Sunday.

The event starts at 8 a.m. Sunday and will wind its way throughout the zoo’s exhibits.

After the race, children ages 12 and under can participate in the free Cheetah “Cub” Fun Run. All the kids who participate in the fun run will get a ribbon when they cross.

8. Comedian Dan Davidson brings Midwestern humor to Funny Bone in Newport

Comedian Dan Davidson moved from Indianapolis to Denver for his wife, and with the move has come a shift toward acting.

The journeyman comic has traversed the nation multiple times while honing his act in more than 3,000 performances.

He’ll bring his Midwestern brand of humor back home as he performs this weekend at Newport on the Levee.

9. Kirk Mayhews unveils new exhibition 'Intercept' to 1305 Gallery

There are a lot of fun events on Main Street this Final Friday -- not the least of which is Kirk Mayhew’s exhibition, Intercept, at 1305 Gallery.

Mayhew’s exhibition juxtaposes rough clay works with clean-edged, man-made materials on a small scale.
