NEWPORT, Ky. -- If you see a lot of Ken Page in Page’s paintings, the artist wants you to take a closer look.
Page says you’ll see nods to Edward Hopper and other classic American painters, along with bows to sculpture and folk art. And unmistakably, you’ll see Kentucky.
It's all part of an exhibition of paintings from the longtime Northern Kentucky artist and art teacher, on view at the York Street Cafe Gallery.
Born in Villa Hills, Ky., Page studied art at Eastern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky universities and cut his artistic teeth in rural Kentucky. He's had solo shows at Hansen Gallery in New York City, Closson’s Gallery in Cincinnati and The Carnegie in Covington, Ky., among other art centers.
In this video, WCPO arts reporter Matt Peiken takes you to the opening reception at York Street Cafe Gallery and talks with Page about his history and paintings he says only appear self-referential.
