The new 11,000 square foot brewery and taproom will take over what is currently a gallery at 25 West Seventh Street in the heart of Covington’s Pike Street Corridor.
The area is part of Covington’s Vision 2015 redevelopment project.
Braxton Brewing is the brainchild of the Rouse family – Evan Rouse, Jake Rouse and Greg Rouse – and local beer legend Richard Dubé.
Dubé was most recently the brewmaster and vice president at the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company .
“The Braxton opportunity came to me at the perfect time”, Dubé said. “The Rouse family has put a tremendous amount of effort into this and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to brew with Evan, who I am certain is one of the youngest and most creative professional brewers in America.”
The group said Dubé and brewer Evan Rouse developed the brewery’s 20-barrel, three-vessel brewhouse specifically to their designs.
Evan Rouse was most recently the assistant brewmaster at the Hofbräuhaus in Newport.
For his part, Evan Rouse said he’s excited to make beer and learn from Dubé, a master of the craft who is also still faculty at the prestigious Seibel Institute in Chicago.
“I’m thrilled to be able to design and produce great beers with Richard,” Evan said in a release. “His tremendous brewing background, knowledge of quality control and his passion for teaching make him a great fit for Braxton Brewing.”
According to a release, the group plans to open the brewery in the fourth quarter of 2014 and will focus on local production before expansion to the Midwest.
Kentucky prohibits self-distribution, so Braxton Brewing will have to team with a local distributor to get the beer out of the brewery.
“We wanted Braxton Brewing Company to be the first free standing micro-brewery in Northern Kentucky. We look forward to delivering world class beer and utilizing modern technology to inspire our loyal fans,” Jake Rouse said in a release.
In addition to providing kegs, growlers and other merchandise in the taproom, the brewers plan on offering tours and other “educational opportunities.”
“We want our customers to feel as if they have access to the entire brewing experience. We intend to provide the opportunity for consumers to better understand how craft is produced in a unique and friendly atmosphere,” Greg Rouse said.
Ahead of their launch, Braxton Brewing has also partnered with Neltner Small Batch – a local branding and design agency with strong ties to the craft brewing community.
“We built the Braxton brand to speak to the Rouse family heritage of hard work and innovation,” Neltner said in a release. “Theirs is a unique story, and their brand proudly reflects that strength.”
