Bunbury Rewind: Culture Queer

Longtime Cincy band values creativity over career

CINCINNATI - This is how long Culture Queer has been together—Bill Clinton was still in the White House when the band first formed.

And that shows in the music they still make—a blend of '80s and '90s-styled "fruit pop," as bandleader Scott Fredette terms it, with deep bows to bands such as the B-52s, Go-Gos and Depeche Mode.

While many Cincinnati bands have tasted major label and national touring success, Culture Queer have focused more on creativity than career. Video and on-stage visuals play a large role in the act—Fredette and bandmate Dana Hamblen make their livings as video directors.

You can next catch Culture Queer live Sept. 26 at Below Zero Lounge. Until then, satiate your fix with this rewind from Bunbury 2013.
