David Duchovny pushing The X-Files creator to complete movie script

DAVID DUCHOVNY is pushing for a new THE X-FILES movie, but fears creator CHRIS CARTER's busy schedule will prevent him from completing the script any time soon.

It's been five years since the supernatural drama's last venture to the big screen, and more than 20 years since it first debuted on TV, but fans are still eager to see more of Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's FBI special agents in action.

During a Q&A with devotees on content-sharing website Reddit.com, Duchovny reveals that there is indeed a script in the works, but it's not coming to fruition as fast as he'd like it to, so he urges fans to show their desire for a third film.

He explains, "I think Chris is working on a script. Chris is shooting a pilot right now, so he might not be working on a script, but he claims to be working on a script, and if he does do that and (20th Century) Fox wants to make it... Gillian (Anderson) will do it, I will do it, so start your writing campaign now.

"Seriously. We'd all love to do it. The ball is in Fox's hands. And not (his character) Fox Mulder, Fox the studio."

In fact, Duchovny is hoping the film will be made in the next three years, so their TV counterparts will be working under President Obama rather than former President George Bush, who held office when The X-Files: I Want to Believe sequel was made in 2008.

He adds, "We want to see (President) Obama's picture in the office. We gotta hurry. We don't want to leave it off at the ex-Bush. Or we'd love Hillary (Clinton) up there. Hillary and (co-star) Mitch Pileggi as the attorney general."

The X-Files TV series ended in 2002 after nine seasons, and the first film, X Files, made $189 million worldwide in 1998.
