How much blood do they use?

CINCINNATI – Every October the Dent Schoolhouse’s double doors open wide, awaiting the eager thrill-seekers and ghost hunters to step inside and be terrified to their very core.

Here are 9 things you didn't know about the Dent Schoolhouse, which runs through Saturday, Nov. 2.

1. The famous Dent Schoolhouse was built in the 1894 and became a legendary haunt over 15 years ago—which was a fundraiser for the Boy Scouts until Stross bought it in 2005 with his father Chuck and friend Josh Wells.

2. Every season approximately 30,000 guests attend from around the world, including celebrities like, Nicollette Sheridan from Desperate Housewives, Bart Johnson from High School Musical, Amanda Foreman from Star Trek: Into Darkness, Tristan Lebau from Superman Returns, Reno 911!'s Thomas Lennon, as well as numerou Bengals and Reds players.

3. Eleven makeup artists use more than 300 prosthetics, six gallons of latex, and 100 color make-ups. Each monster takes between 15-30 minutes to create every night depending on the make-up.

4. Dent Schoolhouse uses over 50 gallons of "blood" each year. In addition to coming in liquid form, blood is made up of Kool-aid, frosting and mixing coffee grounds with the liquid blood to give it a chunky effect.

5. Since co-owner Bud Stross has owned the schoolhouse, he has heard of at least 50 real hauntings from staff members, including seeing first-hand a dark-shadowed woman with long hair from one of the windows.

6. It costs about $300,000 to produce the attraction, including Dent Schoolhouse and a second all-outdoor attraction called, “Queen City Slaughter”.

7. Nearly 80 actors work between the two attractions, which include more than 40 scenes, as well as an outside playground and bus yard.

8. Top Haunts Magazine has named Dent Schoolhouse the No. 2 haunted attraction for several years. They measure up haunts worldwide for this ranking.

9. Considered a ‘young haunt’ Dent Schoolhouse has been featured in the LA Times, Huffington Post and on the NFL Network and two episodes on the Travel Channel, including “Halloween Crazy” and “Toy Hunters”.
