AAA lays out some emergency tips in case you get stuck in the snow. The key is to be ready now, and their slogan is, "How to go on the ice and snow."
"You always want to make sure you have the necessary items in your vehicle," said Lori Cook, Safety Advisor for AAA East Central. AAA calls the items you need in your car the, "Winter Driving Kit." Some of the items include: Bag of abrasive material (sand, salt, or cat litter), small snow shovel, snow brush, traction mats, flashlight; Window-washing solvent, gloves or mittens. ice scraper, cloth or paper towels, booster cables, blanket, warning flares or triangles, cellular phone. When driving in severe weather conditions, they also advise drivers to avoid driving fatigued and never warm up your car in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
Remember to make sure your tires are properly inflated and keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze-up.
