Late summer lawn care: When to reseed your lawn

CINCINNATI - A cool breeze doesn’t mean fall is here.

That’s the message lawn care experts are delivering after a recent cold front hit the Tri-State.

Bennett Dowling with the Civic Garden Center of Cincinnati wants to remind those with green thumbs that it is still summer and too early to seed or reseed you lawn.

“It’s too early still. As we know from living in Cincinnati, every month is so different and this doesn't mean summer is over,” Dowling said.

Grass seeds are best planted before or after summer, he said.

“Usually September through mid-October is a good time for seeding or seeding new patches in your lawn,” Dowling said.

He warned that planting any earlier in the year means higher maintenance and that will cost you time and money.

You also need to continue watering and mowing your lawn to make sure it’s healthy, he said.
