Due to recalls and the NHL lockout, Miami currently has a record 13 players in the American Hockey League.
Seven forwards, four defensemen and two goalies presently call the AHL home, and they have logged 161 games in what is presently the top hockey league in North America.
AHL: San Antonio forward Justin Vaive scored his first AHL goal in a 4-0 win at Abbotsford on Dec. 5.
Vaive's even-strength goal seven-plus minutes into the second period extended the Rampage's lead to two.
Texas forward Reilly Smith recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-3 shootout win at Peoria on Dec. 5.
The Stars fell behind, 2-0, but Smith set up a goal by defenseman Cam Barker with eight seconds left in the first period to cut the lead in half.
Smith put Texas ahead, 3-2 by scoring with 10:33 left in regulation.
Providence forward Alden Hirschfeld is off to a hot start after being promoted. Hirschfeld has two goals and two assists in six games since being called up.
Hirschfeld scored the tying goal three minutes into the second period, and he set up the game-winner with 14:07 left in regulation.
Manchester goalie Jeff Zatkoff has now won nine of 10 starts and six in row.
Zatkoff has earned three shutouts in his last 10 outings for the Monarchs, and he went 8-1 with a 1.21 goals-against average in November.
Speaking of the Monarchs, Manchester defenseman Vincent LoVerde picked up his first AHL point, an assist on the first goal of the Monarchs' 5-4 loss to Springfield on Nov. 30.
