It's Friday, Sept. 2, 2016.

IT WAS 25 YEARS AGO TODAY: It was Sept. 2, 1991, that Jimmy Connors turned 39 and played one of the most memorable matches ever at the US Open. He was down two-sets-to one and later trailed 2-5 in the fifth set to 24-year old Aaron Krickstein. The match lasted four hours and 41 minutes and was telecast live. You couldn't stop watching it. Connors willed his way to victory. If you ever have a chance to watch the replay, don't miss it.

COLTS 13  BENGALS 10: The Colts scored the winning touchdown with 40 seconds left on the clock. None of the starters were playing for either team. The Bengals finish the preseason at 1-3.

MARVIN ... WHAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED? "As far as accomplishing goals tonight, I feel good about that. I think the guys that went out there, we had time to get guys playing time and make good strong evaluations. They had the opportunity to show literally what they can do and can't do. And that's great. That's what you want"

NICK VIGIL MADE A LEAPING INTERCEPTION. MARVIN ... WHAT DID THE BENGALS LIKE ABOUT VIGIL IN COLLEGE? "As a linebacker in college, he did everything you expect a guy to do. He could play in there, do a nice job versus the run, he was a good tackler, the guy that understood the passing game, the passing lanes and he could run. And he's going to just continue to grow bigger and stronger"

MARVIN ... DID ANYONE GET HURT? "I don't know. I never know. And if I knew I wouldn't tell you."

UC 28  UT MARTIN 7: Hayden Moore threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Boone ran for a touchdown. UC trailed early 7-0 and 7-6 at halftime.

QUOTING TOMMY: "We had no clue on what they were going to do on offense." The Skyhawks scored a touchdown on their first possession

FURTHERMORE: (After that opening touchdown) "After that, we didn't give up any points and played pretty well in the redzone in the second quarter.  We were down there the whole half with turnovers and mistakes that we made. But we got better as the game went on. I think our guys improved."

FRIDAY FOOTBALL FRENZY: Colerain at St. X headlines a slew of good games. On Thursday night, I got to see Ryle win over Boone County 42-7.

GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, MYLES: Chris Mack has suspended Myles Davis from the Xavier team. This comes after Davis was charged with a misdemeanor for criminal damaging in an incident with his former girlfriend. Davis averaged 10.8 points a year ago, but more importantly, he has valuable experience playing in big games. He's a great free throw shooter and hits 38 percent of his three-point shots.

QUOTING COACH MACK: "Playing basketball for Xavier is a privilege, and we have high expectations for how our student-athletes represent our university. Unless Myles meets those expectations, he will not be a part of our program."

RIP, JOEL CORNETT: The former St. Xavier High School and Butler University basketball star was found dead in his Chicago apartment last month. Autopsy results reported by the Indy Star said his death was due to coronary artery disease, the No. 1 killer of Americans. He was only 35.

I'm gone Friday ... so have a great holiday weekend.
