CINCINNATI - Football fans at Ohio State University are coming under scrutiny after photos surfaced online of a T-shirt referencing the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal at Penn State University.
A photo of an Ohio State fan T-shirt that reads "I'd rather shower at Penn State than cheer for the Wolverines" went viral Wednesday. The Ohio State Buckeyes have long been rivals with the University of Michigan Wolverines.
The T-shirt is not sanctioned by OSU, according to a USA Today article .
"It is unacceptable and appalling that someone would make light of a tragedy in this manner," Gayle Saunders, OSU assistant vice president of media relations said to USA Today.
The shower reference on the T-shirt is referring to an alleged sexual encounter between Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach, and a boy in the showers of the PSU football building. In June, Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of sex abuse involving 10 boys over a 15-year period.
The T-shirt photo was first posted on Jezebel , a women's blog. Similar shirt designs have been seen at Iowa State University and Louisiana State University.
OSU's first football game of the season is Sept. 1 against Miami University. OSU plays University of Michigan Nov. 24.
