MASON, Ohio -- Mason senior distance runner Ellie Brush verbally committed to Virginia Tech, where she will run track and cross country.

“We are so pumped for her,” Mason girls’ track and field coach Tony Affatato said Thursday morning. “It will be a great fit for her. The track and cross country program has done well. There are great academics and a beautiful campus.”

National Signing Day is Nov. 9.

Brush will be a four-hour drive from her sister, Erin, who runs for Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.

“Ellie really loved the girls on the team and felt at home when she visited and thought the coaches would take care of her and not over-train her, especially as a freshman,” Affatato said.

Brush has the top time in the Greater Miami Conference this season. The district meet is Oct. 22.

A three-time state track meet qualifier, Brush qualified for four events at the 2016 Division I state track and field meet in Columbus.

She was third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:56.87. She was the district and regional champion in the 800-meter run. She was the regional runner-up in the 1,600 run.

A three-time state cross country meet qualifier, Brush was 27th at the Division I state cross country meet in 2015 with a time of 18:50.6. Mason was third as a team last season.

She was 27th as an individual for the state runner-up Comets in 2014. She was 15th for the state champion Comets in 2013.
