Luke Kennard: Franklin High School basketball star makes verbal commitment to Duke, Krzyzewski

FRANKLIN, Ohio - Luke Kennard gave his verbal commitment to Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke University Blue Devils Monday evening at Franklin High School.

Ohio's Mr. Basketball made his decision between Coach K, Kentucky's John Calipari or Louisville's Rick Pitino.

The high-scoring 6-5 junior guard was also considering Ohio State, Michigan, Florida and North Carolina, according to Franklin coach Brian Bales.

Kennard, whose shooting range seems to know no limits, averaged 41 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals per game last season. He scored 59 in one game, including 23 in the first quarter.

Although Kennard is a life-long Kentucky fan, he recently took an official visit to Duke, and observers believed he'd chose to join the Blue Devils. Duke's loss to Mercer in the NCAA round of 64 last week didn't give him second thoughts.

Kennard is also an all-state football quarterback. He said a few days ago that he was eager to decide which college to attend, and "enjoy my next year and kind of get the pressure off," he told the Associated Press.

The AP said Kennard carries a grade-point average of 4.3.

Scout.com ranks Kennard as the No. 14 overall prospect in the junior class.
