5/8 SOFT: Lloyd tops Mercy on walk-off bunt

Junior shortstop Jordan Gentry laid down a perfect bunt to score junior center fielder Lauren McMillen in the bottom of the eighth as Lloyd edged Cincinnati Mercy, 8-7 on Thursday.

McMillen had singled, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Gentry’s game-winning bunt single was her fourth hit of the game.

NEWPORT 5, SILVER GROVE 1 – Eighth-grade center fielder Taylor Tyndall tripled home two to break the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth.
 
She also drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the Wildcats’ first run.
 
Junior right-hander Katlyn Hoeh drove in Newport’s final two runs on a fielder’s choice, and she scattered five hits and fanned seven to earn her 13th win of the season.

She drove in two runs.
 
Junior left fielder Morgan Martini and senior center fielder Taylor Burkart added three RBI each for NewCath.
 
Martini grounded in a run, tripled to right center in the second to score another and doubled off the center field fence in the seventh to plate another. Burkart lifted a sacrifice fly in the second and smacked a two-run single in the seventh.
