Bateman scores decisive goal for the Lightning

   Villa Madonna sophomore forward Emma Bateman scored the go-ahead goal with a minute left in regulation in the Blue Lightning’s 2-1 win over Dixie Heights on Monday.

   Sophomore midfielder Maya Jaafari took a free kick and connected with Bateman, who buried a shot in the left corner of the net.

   Colonels sophomore Jenna Wolf had tied the score two minutes earlier.

   Jaafari had opened the scoring, giving Villa Madonna the lead 16 minutes into the second half.

   Blue Lightning senior goalkeeper Alex Hengge turned 12 shots aside to preserve the win.

   HALFTIME: 0-0. GOALS: VM—Jaafari, Bateman. DH—Wolf. RECORDS: Villa Madonna 4-3-2, Dixie Heights 5-2.

   BROSSART 2, RYLE 1 – Mustangs senior midfielder Cori Ziegler scored the game-winning goal with five minutes remaining.

   Senior midfielder Megan Dierig sent a free kick in to Ziegler, who headed the ball off the crossbar, got her own rebound and headed it into the net.

   Junior midfielder Nicole Goderwis put Brossart ahead in the first minute of the second half off a feed by Dierig, and junior Emily Anderson tied it for Ryle 18 minutes later.

   HALFTIME: 0-0. GOALS: B—Goderwis, Ziegler. R—Anderson. RECORDS: Brossart 6-2, Ryle 4-2-1.

   SIMON KENTON 3, HOLY CROSS 0 – Pioneers sophomore Abbie Thatcher stopped five shots to earn her third solo shutout of the season.

   Sophomore midfielder Alli McCauley netted her first career goal just past the midway point of the second half off a corner kick by junior defender Karley Abel.

   Sophomore Mallory Valentine and senior Courtney Fulmer also found the net for Simon Kenton.

   HALFTIME: 1-0. GOALS: SK—Valentine, Fulmer, McCauley. SHUTOUT: Thatcher (5 saves). RECORDS: Simon Kenton 7-3, Holy Cross 1-7-1.

   BEECHWOOD 5, COOPER 2 – Junior midfielder Annie Wilson scored the first goal of the game, and she added an assist for the Tigers.

   The Jaguars tied the score at one, but senior forward Alex Keller gave Beechwood the lead for good late in the first half.

   HALFTIME: Beechwood, 2-1. GOALS: B—Pawsat, Keller, Wilson, Schmitt, Fessler. C—Conner 2. RECORDS: Beechwood 5-5-1, Cooper 0-6.

   BOONE COUNTY 8, WALTON-VERONA 0 – Sophomore forward Skylar Lehmkuhl and freshman midfielder Peyton Black scored two goals each for the Rebels.

   Lehmkuhl has found the net 16 times this season, and Black – who also earned an assist – has recorded 12 markers.

   HALFTIME: 4-0. GOALS: BC—Black 2, Lehkuhl 2, Mersmann, Knox, Holland, Prather. SHUTOUT: Ganster and Anderson (4 saves). RECORDS: Boone County 8-1-1, Walton-Verona 3-4.

   CAMPBELL COUNTY 9, CALVARY CHRISTIAN 0 – Seniors forward Natalie Visse and midfielder Lauren Macke, and junior forward Abby Vandergriff potted two goals each in the Camels’ win.

   Campbell County freshman midfielder Natalie Fausz scored her first career goal.

   HALFTIME: 4-0. GOALS: CAM—Visse 2, Vandergriff 2, Macke 2, Fausz, White, Jolly. SHUTOUT: Schroers (0 saves). RECORDS: Campbell County 8-1-1, Calvary Christian 1-5-1.
