Smith scores twice late to pace Pioneers

Senior forward Tyler Smith scored three second-half goals to lead Simon Kenton to the 3-0 shutout of Owen County at home on Saturday.

Smith, who has eight goals on the season, was assisted on his first two goals by Corey Knaley as the Pioneers snapped the scoreless tie early in the second half. Smith's third goal, late in the game, iced the win.

Hunter Leanhart, the junior in goal, earned his fourth shutout of the season with one save as the Pioneers snapped a three-game winless streak.

DIXIE HEIGHTS 9, GALLATIN COUNTY 0 – Sophomore strikers Austin Stacey and Andres Rivera led the way as the Colonels peppered the goal with a steady stream of goals.

The sophomores had two goals apiece to lead seven scorers for Dixie Heights.

RYLE 2, HENDERSON COUNTY 0 – Senior striker Jose Alberto Aguirre scored one goal and assisted on the other as Ryle registered its fifth shutout of the season.

Senior Aaron Hamrick broke the scoreless tie 1:20 into the second half off Aguirre's assist. Aguirre added the insurance goal late, with 2:17 remaining to play.

NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 2, MONTGOMERY COUNTY 0 – Gault Nolan and Patrick Lious scored second-half goals to push NewCath to its seventh win of the season.

The Thoroughbreds’ Paul Grosser recorded his second shutout of the year.
