By Dave Malaska

The Beechwood-Mt. Healthy installment of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown, as the day's nightcap after a Saturday of weather delays, got a late start.

Beechwood got an even later start, falling behind by four touchdowns before rallying late but falling, 40-37, to the Owls at UC's Sheakley Athletic Complex.

Mt. Healthy, behind quarterback David Montgomery's 271-yard, five touchdown performance, was up, 28-0, in the third before the Tigers got on the scoreboard with an 11-yard touchdown catch by Joe Studer with 4:30 remaining in the quarter. The Tigers outscored the Owls 27-12 the rest of the way, but their rally fell just shy driving to tie the game with four minutes remaining. On third down, Mt. Healthy intercepted a Kyle Fieger pass and scored the deciding touchdown six plays later.

Owls senior Hjavier Pitts rushed for 109 yards on 14 carries for a pair of scores to help Mt. Healthy to 389 yards of offense.

Fieger finished with 19 completions in 38 attempts for 271 passing yards and five touchdowns for the Tigers. Studer caught eight passes for 138 yards and four scores, while senior wideout Jeremy Burns finished with 62 yards on five receptions.
