8/21 BSOC: Holy Cross ties Walton on late goal

Doggett scores with four minutes left

Junior forward Nate Doggett scored with four minutes left in regulation as Holy Cross and Walton-Verona tied, 1-1 on Thursday.

Junior defender Kyle Krumpelman, who moved up with the Indians trailing late, drew the defenders and sent a through pass to Doggett, who buried the tying goal.

Junior goalkeeper Luke Leuthner stopped 10 shots for Holy Cross.

SIMON KENTON 1, NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 1 – Senior midfielder Hrusto Selimovic netted the tying goal for the Pioneers.

Selimovic buried a direct kick with 13 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Thoroughbreds had taken the lead six minutes into the second half on a header off a free kick by junior Jacob Hensley.

COVINGTON LATIN 8, OWEN COUNTY 3 – Sophomore striker Sean Bailey scored three goals to pace the Trojans.

Sophomore midfielder Paul Schmelzer scored twice and added and assist, and senior center midfielder Sam Braun finished with a pair of helpers in Covington Latin’s first win of the year.

HALFTIME: 5-1. GOALS: CL—Bailey 3, Schmelzer 2, Macke, Codell, Foster. OC—Perez 2, Cammack. RECORDS: Covington Latin 1-0-1, Owen County 0-2.
