Cougars' Ross tosses a two-hitter

Senior right-hander Cameron Ross threw a two-hit shutout as Conner blanked Ryle, 4-0 in a District 33 semifinal at Boone County on Tuesday.

Ross also opened the scoring when he came home on a throwing error in the bottom of the first. Junior first baseman Ryan Ward singled home a run later in the frame to make it 2-0.

Sophomore third baseman Jacob Owens doubled in a run with two out in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the Cougars’ lead to three.

Senior shortstop Jared Williams belted his 100th career hit on a double in the bottom of the first and eventually scored Conner’s second run.

BEECHWOOD 7, HOLY CROSS 1 – Sophomore left fielder Brett Slusher helped the Tigers jump out to an early lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first in a District 35 semifinal at Holmes.

Senior right-hander Jason Suchanek went six innings for Beechwood to earn his sixth win of the season.

The Tigers will face Covington Catholic in the championship game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
