Shackelford key in Mustangs' win

Junior right-hander Karlie Shackelford scattered three hits to earn a shutout in Brossart’s first game of the season, a 16-0 win over Dayton on Monday.

Shackelford also doubled home two runs during the nine-run fourth inning, and sophomore catcher Amanda Lloyd followed with a two-run triple.

Senior third baseman Allie Anstead added a two-run single in the fifth inning to seal it.

SCOTT 4, NEWPORT 1 – The Eagles took the lead on a two-base error in the top of the first and never looked back.

Anna Brown had an RBI single in the fifth inning for Scott, and pitcher Anna Shoemake fanned nine to earn the win.

Junior right-hander Katlyn Hoeh struck out 12 and plated the Wildcats’ only run on a fifth-inning double.
