Junior forwards Lydia Graves and Alex Combs combined for eight fourth-quarter free throws as Highlands handed Newport Central Catholic its first loss of the season, 45-40 on Friday.

Combs led all scorers with 14 points, including six in the final frame during which she hit all four of her foul shots.

Graves finished with six points – all in the final stanza. She was 4-for-5 from the line.

Sophomore guard Brianna Adler racked up 10 points for the Bluebirds, who have won nine of their last 10.

Senior forward Nikki Kiernan paced the Thoroughbreds with 12 points.

BOONE COUNTY 60, SCOTT 54 – The Rebels were perfect on six fourth-quarter foul shots to seal the game.

Junior guard Alex Switzer led all Boone County scorers with 20 points. Junior guard Maddy McGarr and senior forward Dallis Knotts added 10 points each for the Rebels, who have won six of their last seven.

Eighth-grade guard Ally Niece paced the Eagles – who had their three-game winning streak snapped – with 20 points.

SIMON KENTON 56, OLDHAM COUNTY 38 – Senior forward Rachel Cox finished with 16 points and seven blocks to pace the Pioneers.

Senior guard Abby Owings added 10 points and three steals for Simon Kenton.

NEWPORT 66, LUDLOW 48 – After being held scoreless in the first quarter, junior Katlyn Hoeh racked up a game-best 20 points for the Wildcats in the last three frames.

Sophomore Ashelny Hensley finished with 14 points for Newport, eight of which came in the opening stanza, and sophomore Kylie Orr also netted 14 points.

The Wildcats have won six straight games.

Junior guard Tori Wofford led the Panthers with 16 points.

BEECHWOOD 66, PENDLETON COUNTY 28 – Sophomore guard Macy Stuempel scored 20 points in the Tigers’ win.

Stuempel poured in 11 of her points in the second quarter, including three of her four 3-pointers. Freshman guard Allison Johnson tallied 13 points for Beechwood, including three treys.

The Tigers knocked down eight shots from behind the arc, and the Tigers finished with just one 3-pointer.

TRIMBLE COUNTY 68, WALTON-VERONA 62 – Sophomore guard Hailey Ison scored a career-best 25 points in the losing effort for the Bearcats, with 22 coming in the second half.

Junior guard Allie Ison added 16 points for Walton-Verona.

Raiders senior guard Paige Black led all scorers with 27 points.
