Pioneers fall to Elizabethtown, win consolation

Simon Kenton suffered its first loss of the season to Elizabethtown on Monday morning but salvaged third place in the Lexington Catholic Classic with a win over Allen County-Scottsville later in the day.

Seniors guard Abby Owings and Rachel Cox were named to the all-tournament team.

ELIZABETHTOWN 63, SIMON KENTON 52 – Owings rolled up 25 points, four steals and a pair of assists in the Pioneers’ losing effort.

Cox added 12 points for Simon Kenton, which had its season-opening eight-game winning streak snapped.

SIMON KENTON 74, ALLEN COUNTY-SCOTTSVILLE 59 – Pioneers senior guard Christina Cook scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in the first quarter of the consolation game.

Cook, who hit six field goals in the opening stanza, also dished for five assists and picked up three steals.

Owings chipped in 15 points and three assists for Simon Kenton.

ST. HENRY 71, BELLEVUE 46 – Junior center Savannah Neace rolled up 18 points and eight rebounds to pace the Crusaders.

Senior forward Trisha Marks and junior forward Karly Lehmkuhl added 16 points each. Marks also grabbed seven rebounds.

Sophomore guard Makayla Bishop led the Tigers with 14 points and eight steals, and sophomore guard Kira Ross chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds.
