12/11 GBK: Cooper edges Holmes

Late free throws lift Jaguars

Senior guard Katey Pittman went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter as Cooper edged Holmes, 61-58 on Wednesday.

Pittman scored nine of her game-high 16 points in the final stanza as Cooper won its second straight game.

Senior guard Savannah Brinneman drained three foul shots down the stretch for the Jaguars, who trailed by eight after three quarters.

Eighth-grade guard Lexi Held added 14 points for Cooper.

CAMPBELL COUNTY 64, WALTON-VERONA 61 – The Bearcats missed a potentially game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Camels hit 12 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Sophomore forward Brandi Rice netted four and scored eight of her 14 points in the final stanza.

Sophomore guard Kylie Kramer led Campbell County in scoring with 16 points.

Walton-Verona junior guard Alie Mills rolled up a game-high 21 points.

NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 57, DIXIE HEIGHTS 43 – Senior forward Nicole Kiernan and junior guard Loren Zimmerman scored eight points each in the third quarter to help the Thoroughbreds pull away.

Kiernan equaled a game high with 14 points, and junior forward Alexus Mayes added 13 as NewCath won its fourth straight game to open the season.

Junior center Liza Tibbs paced the Colonels with 14 points.

VILLA MADONNA 32, COVINGTON LATIN 23 – Senior guard Alex Hengge scored 13 of her 14 points in the second quarter to help the Blue Lightning pull away.

Hengge also grabbed eight rebounds. Seniors center Maria Blom and Morgan Trusty pulled down seven boards each as Villa Madonna won its second straight game.
