Sherrard scores 2 in Pandas' win

Freshman striker Christin Sherrard scored two goals to lead Notre Dame to a 3-0 victory at Ryle in the rain on Saturday.

Sherrard opened the scoring at the 23-minute mark off and assist by Maddie Tierney, then added another 10 minutes into the second half.

Junior Mandy Arnzen scored 30 seconds later off another Tierney assist for the final tally. The loss was Ryle's first in district play, while Notre Dame pushed its unbeaten streak to seven games.

HALFTIME: Notre Dame, 1-0. GOALS: ND--Sherrard 2, Arnzen. SHUTOUT: Hansel and Kim (5 saves). RECORDS: Notre Dame 14-2-3, Ryle 11-3-1.

VILLA MADONNA 5, DAYTON 0 — The Blue Lightning seniors, Alex Hengge and Claire Sells, both scored on senior night and got to play alongside their little sisters as Villa cruised to the win.

Hengge played the first half in goal, then played in the field with little sister Abby in the second as Julia Sells joined her sister in the lineup. Both younger sisters are sophomores.

HALFTIME: 2-0. GOALS: VM—A. Hengge, C. Sells, Warner, Meier, Bateman. SHUTOUT: A. Hengge and Desmarais. RECORDS: Villa Madonna 9-6-3, Dayton 1-10-1.

BOONE COUNTY 1, BEECHWOOD 0 — A penalty kick goal by sophomore Paige Mersmann four minutes before the break proved the decider. The goal against Beechwood's backup keeper came after starter Cara Schwartz was whistled for the foul.

Schwartz returned to the pipes after the goal and registered six saves in the loss. Rebels goalkeeper Elizabeth Ganster finished with 15.

HALFTIME: Boone County, 1-0. GOAL: BC—Mersmann. RECORDS: Boone County 14-5-1, Beechwood 8-7-3.

HIGHLANDS 2, BOYLE COUNTY 2 — The Bluebirds made the two-hour trip to Danville and came away with the rain-soaked tie on a late equalizer by Rebels sophomore Meghan Paynter. Freshman Kayla Nehus scored both Highlands goals. 

HALFTIME: 1-1. GOALS: H—Nehus 2. B—E. Harris, Paynter. RECORDS: Highlands 4-6-4, Boyle County 9-5-3.
