CINCINNATi -- A memo went out to Cincinnati police officers Thursday informing them if they plan to attend a Bengals game as a fan they'd better leave their guns at home.

The NFL has implemented a firearms and weapons policy that directly affects law enforcement officers. Failure to follow the rules could result in criminal charges.

9 On Your Side reached out to officials with the Bengals organization for comment. They declined to comment since it's a league policy and didn't come from the team specifically.

Officials with the Cincinnati Police Department said the rule is not new. Officers haven't been able to carry guns inside Paul Brown Stadium for quite some time due to a stadium policy, they said.
