Bengals can move on without Palmer

CINCINNATI - Many Bengals fans thought Tuesday's trade of Carson Palmer would never happen.

But, after months of saying Palmer was retired, Bengals President Mike Brown dealt the former first pick to the Oakland Raiders.

"You about had to pull the trigger, because if you didn't, you're not helping your football team," said Bengals fan Terry Amburgy.

The Bengals could get as many as two first round picks for Palmer from the Raiders. It's a deal that Bengals fan Charles Blasingame says is the Bengals should have made weeks ago.

"I think that Mike Brown made the best move in his tenure as the owner of the Bengals," Blasingame said.

Palmer apparel still sits on the shelves of many Tri-State sporting goods stores. Drastically marked down prices for Palmer gear is still making his jersey a popular pick.

"They can get cheap stuff that's Bengals to support the team, even if it does have Palmer's name on it," said Casey Strong, Assistant Manager of Cardboard Heroes at Kenwood Towne Center.

Strong says they have sold more Palmer jerseys than any other Bengals player since May. The low price of the number 9 jersey is behind the boost in sales.

Palmer jerseys cost $20 at Cardboard Heroes, compared to the $85 it costs for a current player's replica jersey.
