CINCINNATI -- Bengals punter Kevin Huber proved he was one of the best in the club history Sunday against the Chargers. On Wednesday, the hometown kid was honored as one of the best in the NFL.

Huber was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his role in Cincinnati's 17-10 road victory over San Diego. He posted career highs in gross and net average, both at 55.5, on four punts.

The McNicholas High School grad and University of Cincinnati product had a 75-yard punt, tying the club record for distance, and he totaled two kicks that went inside the opponent's 20-yard line with no touchbacks. The 75-yarder was downed at the San Diego 4-yard line.

On the other three punts, the Chargers had one return for no gain and two fair catches.

The fifth-year player also served as the holder on a 46-yard field goal that gave the Bengals a two-score lead in second half, the team’s only field goal try of the day.

Huber, a fifth-round draft pick in 2009 by the Bengals, is averaging 41.6 net yards per punt (44.8 yards per punt), good for fifth in the league through 12 games. He's also tied for ninth in punts inside the 20-yard line (23).

This is the fifth weekly or monthly AFC award earned by the Bengals this season. Previously, linebacker Vontaze Burfict earned the weekly Defensive Player award (Week 11 vs. Cleveland), wide receiver Marvin Jones won the weekly on offense (Week 8 vs. N.Y. Jets) and quarterback Andy Dalton won the weekly on offense (Week 6 at Buffalo). Dalton won the monthly offensive award for October.

Last season, the Bengals established a franchise record with seven weekly or monthly AFC awards.

The last Bengal to win Special Teams Player of the Week was CB Adam Jones, in his role as punt returner in Week 2 of 2012 vs. Cleveland.
