CINCINNATI - When the Cincinnati Bengals roar back into action this fall, they'll do it with one of their best defensive weapons.
The team announced Monday that linebacker Rey Maualuga re-signed as an unrestricted free agent.
The 6-foot 2-inch Maualuga is a fifth-year NFL player and was a second-round draft choice for the Bengals in 2009.
Team officials said Maualuga played in 62 games with 61 starts over the last four seasons.
"Rey has been a fine young player for us, and he continues to grow on and off the field," said head coach Marvin Lewis. "He is passionate about becoming a great player, and we're excited to have him back as we work with these signings to keep our defense together."
Maualuga was second on the team in tackles with 152 during last season. He has 428 tackles in the last four regular seasons -- the most on the team in that span.
According to team statistics, he led the Bengals with 15 tackles in last season's Wild Card playoff game at Houston.
