CINCINNATI - Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson, who was designated as the team's franchise player for 2013, signed the club's one-year tender offer for $11.5 million on Friday.
The Bengals have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal with Johnson. If a deal isn't reached, a new contract can't be signed until the start of the 2014 offseason.
"We are glad to have this accomplished and to know we'll have Mike with us for all of our offseason work," said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. "We will stay in contact with Mike's representatives about possibly doing a longer deal."
