A.J. McCarron: Cincinnati Bengals sign Alabama quarterback

Fifth-round pick expected to back up Andy Dalton

CINCINNATI - The Bengals signed quarterback A.J. McCarron of Alabama (fifth-round pick) and cornerback Lavelle Westbrooks of Georgia Southern (seventh round) on Thursday.

"It feels good to finalize the deal. I'm just thankful to Mr. (Mike) Brown and the rest of this organization for the opportunity. I won't let them down," McCarron told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.

McCarron is expected to be a backup to Andy Dalton in his rookie season.

Terms were not disclosed.

The Bengals have signed four of their eight draft picks, including linebacker Marquis Flowers of Arizona (sixth round) and wide receiver James Wright of LSU (seventh round).

The top four picks are unsigned:
