Xavier Musketeers: Ticketmaster still has a few tickets for NCAA First Four game in Dayton

Brokers have better selection, higher prices

CINCINNATI - Still looking for tickets to Xavier's NCAA "First Four" game in Dayton?

Ticketmaster.com had a few left Monday night, but brokers had a better selection, albeit at higher prices.

Xavier coach Chris Mack tweeted late Monday night that some XU students were given a chance to get to the game free of charge:

Here's where to look if you aren't so lucky to be enrolled at the Jesuit university, and able to get down to the Cintas Center Tuesday morning:

> 333.seat.com (Riverfront Choice Tickets, downtown. You can also call 333-SEAT.)

> StubHub

> eBay

> Primesport.com (Official NCAA Ticket Exchange - all-session tickets only.).

But expect to pay as much as double or more than face value.

Sellers on StubHub were asking between $74 and $156 Monday.

The cheapest ticket - good for both Tuesday games (Xavier vs. North Carolina State at 9:10 and Albany vs. Mount Saint Mary's at 6:40)  - originally cost $45.

An all-session ticket - including two Wednesday games  - cost $120.

If any schools return tickets, they will be available at the University of Dayton Ticket Office at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday.

Xavier fans who wanted tickets found out they were on their own Sunday when the university announced it would not have any for purchase through the XU ticket office.

Each school got 200 tickets.

About 8,000 tickets were already sold before the pairings were announced Sunday, a University of Dayton spokesperson told WCPO, so fewer than 5,000 were still available to the public.

The University of Dayton has hosted the play-in games at UD Arena (capacity 13,409) since 2001, and the great basketball fans in that city have always bought up the tickets – even when there wasn't a team from only 40 miles away.

A group called the Dayton First Four Organizing Committee works year round to promote the event.

"The road to the Final Four has started in Dayton since 2001," said Shawn Robinson, Associate Director of Media Relations.

"What Xavier fans need to understand is that ticket sales have been going on for months."

Some UD fans might want to sell their tickets this year so they can follow the Flyers to Buffalo for Thursday's NCAA game against Ohio State, but Robinson couldn't vouch for that.

"I haven't heard that, anecdotally or otherwise," he said.

Xavier coach Chris Mack said he was sure Xavier fans would get tickets somehow.

"We want to try to turn UD Arena into the Cintas Center. I'm challenging all the Xavier fans to figure out a way to get tickets. Go on StubHub. Go on the black market. Whatever you got to do … legally," Mack said Sunday.

"Get those tickets in your hands and get some Xavier blue in that place. It would really freshen up the Arena."

The winner of the Xavier - N.C. State game gets a 12th seed and faces fifth-seeded Saint Louis (26-6) in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday.
