CINCINNATI - Former Xavier University forward Justin Martin is transferring to Southern Methodist, which means Xavier's loss becomes UC's loss, too.
SMU already looked like the favorite in the American Athletic Conference next season. And now Larry Brown has added an experienced shooting guard/small forward to his starting lineup.
SMU was a Top 10 team without Justin Martin. Now the Ponies add a fifth-year wing who can really shoot it. Upward trajectory in Dallas.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) June 4, 2014
The 6-6 Martin averaged 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds last season and made 50 3-pointers.

As a graduate student, Martin won't have to sit out a season after transferring.
The wild card now to watch for SMU? Will Texas Tech transfer Jordan Tolbert be given a waiver to play next year. 6-7 F averaged 10.7 + 5.8.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) June 4, 2014
On the other hand, Martin's departure left Xavier without its top two scorers from last season's NCAA tournament team.
Sophomore guard and leading scorer Semaj Christon (17 ppg) decided to go to the NBA.
