CINCINNATI – A capacity crowd watched the Xavier University baseball team collect 20 hits during a 12-3 rout of rival Dayton on Friday afternoon at Hayden Field.

Jake Forrester, Stephen Schoettmer and Selby Chidemo each drove in two RBIs to help the Musketeers improve to 12-14 (5-2 in the Atlantic 10) on the season.

Dayton (7-17-1, 2-5 A-10) struggled at the plate all afternoon against starting pitcher Jon Richard. After allowing a run on three hits in the top half of the first inning, Richard sat down 10 Flyers in a row. The Flyers managed just one other run off Richard, who finished with seven strikeouts and no walks in six innings of work.

Patrick Paligraf and Tres Eberhard each went 3-for-4 at the plate for XU. Paligraf drove in a run during the contest, giving him nine RBIs in the last three games.

Eberhardt scored three times for the Musketeers, which had seven extra-base hits (six doubles, triple) against the Flyers.

Daniel Przeniczny allowed one unearned run over the final three innings to pick up his first save of the season for Xavier.

Dayton's Parker Schrage took the loss, falling to 1-5 on the season. Four of the eight runs Schrage allowed came off UD defensive miscues. The Flyers had five errors during the game.

The two teams will square off on Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. contest at Hayden Field on Xavier campus.
